DETAILS
Boasting a cast of the calibre of Oliver Reed, Susan George, Donald Pleasance, John Osborne and Raymond Burr, Tomorrow Never Comes is based around a familiar story – traveller returns home to reclaim the love he has left behind only to find her ensconced in the arms of a local business tycoon. Ranked among his best works, Roy Budd creates a fitting orchestral backdrop, with the title song - a haunting ballad ‘Alone Am I’ - performed by Matt Monro. The theme appears in various stylistic guises throughout the film, and once again, Budd obtains fabulous dramatic effect for the soundtrack by his clever use of instrumentation. A virtuoso pianist, he performs all the keyboard parts himself, playing his own cues in the same way Hitchcock liked to appear in his own films.
