A jewel among Roy Budd’s scores, Diamonds will forever be remembered for his striking musical input. It clearly consolidated his reputation as one of the most imaginative and adept UK screen composers, who had by that time developed a distinctive style of music and was incorporating improvisational jazz. Once again Budd manages to merge disparate musical styles and with this particular score, he includes many key elements from the cool ‘blaxploitation’ movies of the period. The title song is sung by The Three Degrees.
